Chester County Libraries/Science in the Summer

Chester County Elementary School Students Are Invited to
Discover the World of Oceanography during GlaxoSmithKline’s Science in the Summer
Registration Begins in May – Space is Limited

Who:
Chester County students entering second through sixth grade are invited to register and attend GlaxoSmithKline’s Science in the Summer program, a free and fun experiment-oriented course taught by certified teachers to groups of 15 students in two age groups: children entering second and third grades (Level I) and children entering fourth through sixth grades (Level II).  GlaxoSmithKline’s Science in the Summer is sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and administered by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in partnership with local libraries.

What:
GlaxoSmithKline’s Science in the Summer program will teach Chester County students about the wonders of the ocean. Students will use microscopes, microviewers and magnifying glasses to observe microscopic sea creatures.  Students will examine sponges, coral and mollusks. They will study sharks and look inside a shark’s jaw.

In Chester County, GlaxoSmithKline’s Science in the Summer program is comprised of four 60-minute classes given over the course of a week. See below for registration and course dates, times and library phone numbers. Parents must register their children in person at the library they wish to attend.

Why:
GlaxoSmithKline’s Science in the Summer fosters a life-long appreciation of learning through hands-on experiments that open young minds to the wonderful world of science. Since its inception 22 years ago, 91,000 Philadelphia-area children have participated in the program.
